Lee and I have decided to start this blog for Jared so we can keep everyone posted on his condition. We are grateful for all of your prayers and kind words, but we are at the point of being overwhelmed trying to keep everyone posted through calls, texts, email, and Facebook. We are concerned that we are forgetting to make some calls. We truly appreciate all of your calls though.
Throughout this blog I will share my story, Jared's progress and some information on how our religion, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is helping us cope with this tragedy.
If you know Jared, you know that he is awesome, kind, generous, funny, loving, caring, and gives the best hugs in this world! He is our baby boy and a great blessing in our life.
On Monday January 31st Jared and his friends were hanging out, play boxing and just being typical boys. Jared was sparring and was given some advice from an eighteen year old that was showing the boys how to box and make sure things stayed playful. His advice to the boys "never let your guard down" - Jared let his guard down for just a moment, took a hit to the face that knocked him out, he stumbled in a circle and fell and hit his head on the cement.
Immediately someone called 911. I would like to find out who this was because their fast response to this situation was just the beginning of a lifesaving miracle. note: we are still not out of the woods but it's a miracle he is still here.
The second help line was the quick response of the police Officer Childs and his assessment in getting an ambulance.
The third of course is the EMT crew that treated Jared and got him to the emergency room quickly.
The fourth is the quick assessment from the St. George hospital trauma team, they quickly stabilized him and prepared him for life flight to UMC Childrens Trauma Center in Las Vegas.
The fifth was the wonderful surgeon and his team in Vegas that quickly took Jared into surgery to release the swelling and the bleeding.
Now it's the nurses that are helping Jared continuously to help with his treatment. We are eternally grateful for all of these unsung heroes.
We want everyone to know and understand that this was a freak accident and no malice was involved. Our heart and prayers go out to the young men and ladies that were hanging out that day just being teenagers. We are especially concerned for the young man Jared was sparring with, please keep him in your prayers also. We do not want his name mentioned and we hope that those of you that read this will remember this was just an accident, no blame is to be applied to anyone! We wish everyone to have love and support in their hearts.
Update as of 12:48 Wednesday February 2nd:
The doctor just came in and told us that his prognosis for survival looks really good. We still have twenty four hours but all was quiet last night. She explained that if he has another night like last night with his vitals where they were last night they will begin to ease him off of the sedation medicine in twenty four hours to see if he can keep his vitals down on his own. THANK YOU FOR THE PRAYERS AND FASTING! We know this is why Jared is still with us and that our loving Heavenly Father hears and answers our prayers.
We won't know for a week or so what kind of damages Jared will have, but we know that through our faith we can conquer anything.
"Ruin is a gift. Ruin is the road to transformation"
We are so sorry for what has happened and we want you to know that we are praying for Jared and for your family! -Amy, Jeremy and Austin Brown
ReplyDeleteInterestingly, the family of the man Max replaced as Bishop ended up in the same hospital you are in, with the same type of situation you are in, after their van rolled coming home from CA. Their 10yr old daughter was thrown from the van and ended up being life-flighted from ST G ER to LV. We know from their experience that the care at this facility is absolutely excellent and you can rest assured that Jared will be well taken care of.
ReplyDeleteI think you decision to blog is excellent. Sammy sent out an email with the address and I think the ward folks here will be frequent visitors. Please keep us posted not only on Jared's progress, but what we can do for you and your family. I especially appreciated reading your plea for prayers for the "hitter". I think that was excellent and shows the compassion you have. You are awesome, individually and as a family. After everything you two gave us here in T14, I pray that the Lord will return that measure of blessings to you all.
Much Love, Marcia
Love you all. Thank you for the update. I was remembering Jared this morning as the little four year old under your feet when you lived by the high school. He has always been full of adventure, even then.
ReplyDeletePraying with you...
